1. рассказывать, перескакивать - и т.п. Also: ПЯТОЕ ЧЕРЕЗ ДЕСЯТОЕ coll (to tell, recount sth.) in a disorganized, nonsequential manner:

- (jump <skip>) from one point (thing) to another;

- (tell sth.) in a mixed-up (confused, jumbled etc) way.

     ♦ Что ты перескакиваешь с пятого на десятое? Начни сначала и изложи всё последовательно и детально. Why do you keep jumping from one thing to another? Start over and tell everything in order, with all the details.

2. Also: ЧЕРЕЗ ПЯТОЕ НА ДЕСЯТОЕ colt (to do sth.) in a careless, disorderly fashion:

- in a slipshod manner (fashion);

- any old way;

- poorly;

- sloppily.

     ♦ Дочка наша учится хорошо, а сын - с пятого на десятое, больше футболом интересуется. Our daughter does well in school, but our son does poorly. He's more interested in soccer.

3. через пятое на десятое понимать, знать и т.п. Also: ИЗ ПЯТОГО В ДЕСЯТОЕ coll (to understand, know etc) a little bit, only certain parts of sth.:

- (to understand <know>) bits and pieces;

- (understand) snatches (here and there).

     ♦ "Ты всё понимаешь, когда смотришь французские фильмы?" - "Честно говоря, с пятого на десятое". "When you watch French films, do you understand everything they say?" "To tell you the truth, I only catch bits and pieces."
